Recorded in the early months of 2022, I spent a lot of time over these songs, with my mind in a very different place.
The creative process is a total mystery to me, and always has been. I've always revelled in the beauty of that mystery, as it keeps me truly and utterly captivated. I'm a slave to the "muse", or whatever it is that keeps me open to ideas coming through the ether, and when one's delivered, I simply go with it. Both directionally, lyrically and musically. I then toil over it lovingly. Lyrically, especially.
The point is, I rarely question if the end product is "right", "good", whatever. It simply IS the work, and the result of a whole lot of toiling to turn the initial idea into something that moves me.
This time, I approached the process with the intent of having more of a hand in the direction, pulling from my previous dabbling with more conventional "popular songwriting" and my more classic alternative music sensibilities, in the hope to produce something more "undeniable".
I don't think I achieved "undeniable", but I think "Sounds Behind the Night" is certainly my most accessible work to date, while retaining many of the darker, more angular elements you'd expect from Bleek Noir. I'm very proud of it.
This one felt like a journey to make, and this is where it led me.
Maybe none of this matters. It simply IS the work.
I just hope you love it.
Thank you x
